千葉県香取市にある佐原（さわら）は、江戸時代から水運で栄えた歴史的な町並みが残る美しい地域です。「小江戸」とも呼ばれ、重要伝統的建造物群保存地区にも指定されています。
この町の誇りの一つが、伊能忠敬（いのう ただたか）です。彼は日本全国を歩いて測量し、初めて日本地図を正確に作成した人物で、佐原で商人としても活躍していました。現在、伊能忠敬旧宅や記念館が町の中心にあり、彼の業績を学ぶことができます。
また、町の中心部を流れる小野川には、ジャージャー橋と呼ばれるユニークな橋があります。この橋は、定期的に橋の上から水が「ジャージャー」と流れる仕組みになっており、夏場の風物詩として親しまれています。
Sawara, located in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, is a picturesque historic town known for its well-preserved Edo-period canals and merchant houses. Often referred to as “Little Edo,” it has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
One of the town’s most famous figures is Tadataka Inō, a merchant-turned-surveyor who created the first accurate map of Japan by walking and measuring the entire country. His former residence and a museum honoring his life and achievements can be found in the center of town.
A notable landmark in Sawara is the “Jā-jā Bridge” (Jā-jā-bashi), which spans the Ono River. True to its name, water periodically gushes out from the bridge with a “ja-ja” sound, a fun and refreshing sight especially enjoyed during the hot summer months.
