Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu, with construction starting in 1610 and completion in 1615. It is famous for the golden shachihoko, mythical fish-like creatures, on the roof of its main tower.
The main tower was destroyed in an air raid in 1945 and rebuilt in concrete in 1959. Honmaru Palace is another highlight, known for its beautiful wall paintings and gold-leaf decorations.
As of September 2026, the main tower is closed to visitors, but you can still see it from outside.
