Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is a major temple of the Chisan sect of Shingon Buddhism, located in Narita, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Founded during the Heian period, Shinshoji has a history spanning over a thousand years and is dedicated to Fudo Myoo, the deity of fire and wisdom. It is one of Japan’s most visited sacred sites, attracting approximately ten million visitors annually. The temple grounds feature several historical structures, including the Niomon Gate, a pagoda, and a three-storied pagoda, each with cultural significance. Shinshoji is especially popular for its New Year’s and Setsubun celebrations, where visitors partake in Goma fire rituals.
