高山陣屋（たかやまじんや）は、江戸時代に幕府の代官や郡代が飛騨地方を治めるための役所として使われていた建物です。全国でも現存する唯一の「郡代・代官所建物」で、国の史跡に指定されています。建物内部には、役所の執務室、白洲（しらす）、蔵などが残されており、当時の行政の様子をうかがい知ることができます。
また、高山陣屋の前の広場では、毎朝「陣屋前朝市（じんやまえあさいち）」が開かれており、新鮮な野菜、果物、漬物、手作り工芸品などを買うことができます。地元の人々や観光客でにぎわう人気のスポットです。
Takayama Jinya is a historical government office used during the Edo period by officials sent from the Tokugawa shogunate to govern the Hida region. It is the only remaining building of its kind—a local administrative office (Jinya) for magistrates and governors—and is now designated as a National Historic Site. Inside, you can see restored rooms such as offices, courtrooms, and storehouses that offer a glimpse into Edo-period governance.
In addition, the open space in front of Takayama Jinya hosts the “Jinya-mae Morning Market” every day. Here, visitors can shop for fresh local produce, pickles, handmade crafts, and more. It’s a lively market enjoyed by both locals and tourists alike.
