Oshino Hakkai is a group of eight spring-fed ponds located in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. The ponds are formed by the snowmelt from Mt. Fuji, which is naturally filtered through underground lava over many years before emerging as crystal-clear spring water. Each pond has its own name: Deguchi Pond, Okama Pond, Sokonuke Pond, Choshi Pond, Waku Pond, Nigori Pond, Kagami Pond, and Shobu Pond. Oshino Hakkai is designated as a National Natural Monument and selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Exquisite Waters. With its remarkable water clarity and beautiful scenery throughout the seasons, it is a popular sightseeing destination near Mt. Fuji.
