Irohazaka, also known as National Route 120, is a famous winding road located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, serving as the gateway to Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls. Each curve is named after a character from the traditional Iroha poem. The curves on the upward route are labeled with 20 characters from “I” to “Ne,” while those on the downward route are labeled with 28 characters from “Na” to “N.” This road has an elevation difference of approximately 440 meters. Along the way, there is a viewpoint called “Akechidaira,” which features a ropeway and an observation deck where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls. Additionally, as you descend the slope, there is a “Melody Road,” where the vibrations of car tires produce a tune as you drive over it.
