Fukuroda Falls, located in Daigo Town in Ibaraki Prefecture, is one of Japan’s most famous waterfalls and is ranked among the “Three Great Waterfalls of Japan.” The waterfall is about 120 meters high and 73 meters wide, and it cascades down in four distinct tiers, which is why it is also known as “Yodo Falls,” meaning “Four-time Falls.”
One of the most remarkable features of Fukuroda Falls is how dramatically it changes with each season. Visitors can enjoy fresh greenery in spring, a refreshing flow in summer, colorful autumn leaves in fall, and the spectacular frozen waterfall—known as hyōbaku—in winter, when the falls freeze into a stunning wall of ice.
A viewing tunnel and an elevator-accessed upper observation deck allow visitors to admire the falls from multiple viewpoints, making it a popular destination year-round.
