河口湖に浮かぶ小島「浮島（うきしま）」に建つ六角堂（正式名称：川窪寺屋敷跡）は、湖上に佇む姿が河口湖の景観を象徴するスポットのひとつです。通常は湖水に囲まれており、普段はボートでしか参拝できません。
しかし、数年に一度、湖の水位が下がると陸続きになり、歩いて渡ることができます。特に2025年9月現在は水が引き、徒歩で参拝可能となっています。湖上に佇む六角堂を間近で訪ねられる機会は珍しく、多くの観光客にとって特別な体験となっています。
※：ガイドの仕事で河口湖にはよく来ますが、立ち寄り場所からは外れることが多く、六角堂を訪れたのは今回が初めてでした。
On Lake Kawaguchi lies a small island called Ukishima (“Floating Island”), where the Rokkakudō (officially: Kawakubo-dera Residence Site) stands. Its solitary presence on the lake makes it one of the iconic sights of Lake Kawaguchi. Normally, the island is surrounded by water, and visitors can usually reach it only by boat.
However, once every few years, when the water level drops, the island becomes connected to the shore, allowing visitors to walk to the hall. As of September 2025, the water has receded, and the hall can be reached on foot. This rare opportunity to approach the Rokkakudō up close offers a memorable experience for many visitors.
Note: Although I often visit Lake Kawaguchi as part of my guiding work, the Rokkakudō is usually left out of the itinerary, so this was my first time visiting it.
